Slumber scene, etching and engraving by Nicolas Cochin (1610-1686) after Giacomo Torelli (1608-1686). The stage setting designed by Torelli for this early comic opera by Francesco Sacrati, composed in Venice in 1641 - one of the earliest comic operas. The Paris production of 1645, illustrated here, was the first attempt of any importance to introduce Italian opera into France. Fine impression with small margins, size is 9.9 x 12.9 inches, excellent condition - rare!.
